Home Base to Cullen Rd at Waipu Cove, (via the Brynderwyn Hills, DOC track and Te Araroa Walkway)
|
Once again set off from Home Base over the back style and cross private farmland to join the Brynderwyn Hills Walkway, just a short distance away.
Climb to the ridge along the marked route and follow the trail to the trig.
As you walk along the top you will see from East coast to West coast and also get fabulous views back down to Mangawhai and Bream Bay. |
 |
Continue along the undulating trail through regenerating bush and eventually exit the DOC /Te Araroa Walkway at the Cullen Road junction.
We can pick you up on your descent down Cullen Rd or at the bottom when you reach Cove Rd, near Waipu Cove. Just give us a call when you are ready. The walk down can take up to 90mins. Once out of the forest and nearer the bottom , the views are spectacular. |
|
The direction could be reversed by being dropped off at the Cullen Rd end in the morning and walking back along the ridge to Home Base. (As described on the Te Araroa website below).
This walk takes at least 5 hours and does require a good level of fitness. It can be shortened by just walking to the trig and back from Home Base. |

PLEASE NOTE:- Alternative exit day options are available should you prefer. In the case of inclement weather or if the track is otherwise closed, then these alternatives will take precedence.
